Description Vigoleno Castle is an imposing medieval fortress complex of particular beauty, in province of Piacenza, near Milan. The ancient origins of Vigoleno rooted in the Roman era: the Latin form Victus Lyaeci , literally a place consecrated to Bacchus for its exquisite wines, demonstrates the strong connection to the surrounding area from the beginning. Its foundation dates back to the tenth century, but the first documented date is 1141 when it was an outpost on the road to Parma. Vigoleno represents a rarity in Italian history: the castle, in fact belonged continuously to a single family by the end of the fourteenth century to the early twentieth century. The Scotti family . In 1622 , elevated to the highest step of the Duchy Aristocracy , he made the seat of the Castle literal and cultural avant-garde of the whole duchy. Completely surrounded by crenellated walls that is entirely accessible on the ancient battlements, overlooking the surrounding hills. It has a unique access through a lunette , the particular rounded shape , which protected the true portal of entry . The heart of the village is the square , with a central fountain, which is overlooked: the keep, the residential part of the castle, the oratory and the tank . The country continues with a small group of narrow houses around the parish church of St. George. On the east side, between the houses and the walls there is a garden. It has an imposing quadrangular tower with loopholes, corbels and Ghibelline battlements. It houses the museum rooms with historical documents and photographs. A walkway connects it to the second tower , and from there to the residential part. In 1922 the Princess Ruspoli Gramont had it restored and made it the seat of social gatherings, they passed within its walls Gabriele D' Annunzio , the actor Douglas Fairbanks, Max Ernst, Alexander Lacovleff, Jean Cocteau, the film star Mary Pickford, the writer Elsa Maxwell, the pianist Arthur Rubinstein. In the early 80s was the scene of some of the filming of the movie Lady Hawke Richard Donner with Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer.
